You want to rent an apartment and you want to know if your pet will be welcome there:
French law varies depending on the nature of the rental.
If it is a rental as a principal residence, empty or furnished, pets are accepted within a certain number.
Here are the rules:
- You must live in the premises peacefully and scrupulously respect the regulations of the condominium of your building.
It is often mentioned that it is forbidden to leave a dog without a leash in the common areas of the building, for example.
- You are fully responsible for any damage that may be caused by your pet in the furnished property
- You are entirely responsible for any abnormal neighbourhood disturbances that may be caused by your pet
An exception is made for dangerous animals (attack dogs, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, etc.).
The owner can then prohibit you from occupying the dwelling if you have an attack dog, even if you have a possession permit from the town hall or the prefecture.
It is obviously forbidden to own an animal belonging to a protected species.
